In the suburb of Woodstok, Cape Town, South Africa there is a restaurant called The Test Kitchen.
We had the lovely opportunity to have had lunch as well as dinner at this trendy industrial-chick restaurant. Every time the mind-blowing combinations of the world-class chef, Luke Dale-Roberts, have delighted our taste buds in every way! Having had worked as executive chef at La Colombe and then starting his own restaurant in 2010 he has developed his own special style in cooking and is charming everyone with it.
Therefore it is no surprise that this restaurant won the Best Restaurant in South Africa 2012 award.
Book well in advance since this place is fully booked for sometimes weeks in advance.
The almost informal feel you get inside is surprising but refreshing. It is cosy and has a small number of tables due to the kitchen located right in the middle of the restaurant, making it feel like you are seated in a Master Chef episode while watching the master at work. The waiters is very friendly and excellent in dining etiquette.
During lunch you can have only one course, if you really want to limit yourself to that, however during dinner you have only an option between a 3-course or 5-course meal, with or without wine tasting. Go hungry, or else it might be too much. Also take your time enjoying the food, otherwise you don’t get the whole unique experience. There is a sort of dress code, as far as I know, for the evenings but not as strict for lunch- time.
It is open for lunch only on Tuesdays to Saturdays from 12:30pm to 2pm and for dinner on Tuesdays to Saturdays from 7pm to 9:30pm.
